In September 11th’s class we briefly discussed succession, being reclaimed by nature. After searching the net, I stumbled upon an interesting new design, the Ecopod. This got me thinking about the idea of succession. The Ecopod, not exactly being the most pleasant thing to think about, is an eco-friendly coffin. It’s designed by Hazel Selina and constructed out of recycled paper. Not only does it use recycled materials, it is also completely biodegradable, which fits hand in hand with the idea of succession. One can actually be reclaimed by the earth after death. The idea of this new design is to take the idea of being “green” one step further. I know its strange to think of being eco-friendly past life on earth, but i actually think the idea of an Ecopod is pretty cool.

One thing that really stuck out to me on the first day of class… the example of the student who measured the campus in extreme detail and came up with the conclusion (one of many i’m sure) that one large tim hortons coffee equals a round trip from UC to U lot. i like that kind if measurement instead of numbers. especially when journaling everything we do, as i am for the assignment. it would be way easier for me to say “1 granola bar= the energy needed to assemble my drafting board and riser” instead of all the calculations… though i don’t know how accurate of a measurement my granola bar statement would be, but i still find it interesting.
