One of my reflections at the end of the Body Metabolism Journal assignment was that i waste too much water! Thinking about ways that i can reduce my water usage simple actions came to mind such as going to the washroom less times in one day, taking shorter showers, using less water in my baths, only starting the dish washer when it is full, and other simple mindful actions. I searched the web a bit to find other simple ways of conserving water at home.

A night club has been designed by Moomoo Architects in Poland. Light drops on the curtains surrounding the interior which allows it to constantly change. This changes the entire mood of the night club.
This links back to Vaike’s lecture on colour and light as a healing mechanism. The designers in this project have used lighting to change the interior as well as to change the effect of the room. This is turn, may effect how people move, feel, and think in this space.

I found the whole idea of the Vidar Clinic in Sweden to be quite a unique concept. I’m not sure how much I actually agree with the use of colours as a means of healing. In a sense, colour seems like something that would work to calm and sooth the patient, but i’m not yet convinced that it can change ones health on its own. Lets just say that colour and light could do this, I’m not a big fan of the colour choices. They all were quite pale, consisting of pinks, blues, and yellows. Pastel colours aren’t something I would choose as healing colours. For me, darker tones and richer colours would create an environment of comfort and healing. It is a good idea to allow the option of both cool and warm rooms, although I don’t consider warm pink or cool light blue to be the best choice in this situation. In general, I would feel very uncomfortable and uneasy in the Vidar Clinic.
Sweden’s architectural colour palette may just be entirely different than North American’s. So although I feel this way, it probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am influenced greatly by the design that exists in my society.
I was awakened by the many considerations that Vika put into her theoretical Spa investigation. So much homework was put into the development of thoughts, her way of thinking an encorporating the natural environment into the built was very interesting. Sun and wind direction, branches, plaster, kiln, colors were all thought of in terms of ones healing process, and design and efficiency of the building. As a new studio project has been introduced this week and since we have 2 weeks to complete it, i am spending a considerable amount of time researching. Part one of todays presentation has, i feel, given me a new outlook of full investigation: addressing needs, consider environment, finding inspiration, use of colors. Our lesson on the meaning of colors will also come into play through the material choice for my garmenture.
Note: Germany has some amazing schools we were shown in part three of todays presentation, if only such design was incorporated into schools around here. i loved the images shown in part three.
